49 Nonprofits Across Asia-Pacific to Get Support for AI Training, Thanks to Google.org’s New Fund

Table of Content

Artificial intelligence (AI) is changing how people work and do business all over the world, including in Asia-Pacific. But many people still don’t have the skills or training to use AI tools in their jobs or communities. That’s where a new fund is stepping in to help.

The AI Opportunity Fund: 49 Nonprofits Selected for Impact

Google.org and AVPN have selected 49 nonprofit organizations across the Asia-Pacific region to receive support from the AI Opportunity Fund. These groups will offer free or low-cost AI training to people who need it most, including small business owners, workers with disabilities, and caregivers.

Local Training, Global Vision: Reaching Underserved Communities

The training will be tailored to local needs. For example, one organization in India will help rural entrepreneurs, while another in Singapore will support migrant domestic workers. The goal is to make sure more people can understand and benefit from AI, no matter where they live or what their background is.

A $12 Million Boost to Expand AI Access

In addition to the first round of funding, Google.org is investing another $12 million to grow the program. This includes:

  • $10 million to help train 720,000 workers and 100,000 small businesses across the region.
  • $2 million to support 10,000 nonprofits with tools and training so they can use AI to improve their work.

Why This Matters: The AI Awareness and Training Gap

A recent report showed that while many people in Asia-Pacific are excited about AI, only 15% have received any training. And most don’t even know such training is available.

Building a More Inclusive AI Future for All

This fund is trying to change that by making AI training more accessible, especially for people who are often left out of the digital economy.

By supporting workers, small businesses, and nonprofits, the AI Opportunity Fund hopes to make sure that everyone in Asia-Pacific has a fair chance to benefit from AI.
